OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University ousted Panhandle State 78-45 on Tuesday night at Abe Lemons Arena in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament quarterfinals.
Abby Selzer powered the Stars with 17 points. Oklahoma City (28-3), ranked No. 10 in NAIA Division I, advanced to face Southwestern Assemblies of God at 3 p.m. Friday in the SAC Tournament semifinals at Abe Lemons Arena.
Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., provided OCU with three rebounds, an assist and a block on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Michaela Kay, a senior from Spokane, Wash., contributed 11 points, six assists and four rebounds.
OCU shot 43.9 percent from the floor, 47.1 percent from 3-point range and 71.4 from the charity stripe. Shamika Smith sank a free throw to give the Stars their largest advantage at 74-39 with 3:47 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Stars limited Panhandle State to a 22.2-percent field-goal percentage. OCU only allowed two made shot from inside the 3-point arc holding Panhandle State shot 2-21 on jumpers and layups for the game. The Stars blocked eight shots on the game led by Taylor Sylvester who swatted three shots, making her season total 90 blocks.
OCU held an opponent below 30 percent shooting from the field for the 18th time this season.
Oklahoma City improved to 14-2 this season at Abe Lemons Arena.
