Stars trample Central Methodist 11-1

Top-rated OCU blows away Ottawa 10-2

CONWAY, Ark. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University clouted four home runs in an 11-1 romp past Central Methodist (Mo.) on Sunday at the City of Colleges Park in the Central Baptist February Meltdown.
The Stars also stomped Ottawa (Kan.) 10-2 on Sunday. Oklahoma City, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, went to 8-0 on the season.
OCU collected its first victory over a ranked foe this year against 18th-ranked Central Methodist. Jaci Smith crushed a two-run homer in the third inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. Baileigh Loux added a solo shot in the third.
Bailey Whitmore pounded a three-run blast to put the Stars up 9-1 in the fifth. Brittany Perez belted a two-run shot for the final margin.
Whitmore, a senior from Oklahoma City, went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, turned in a 3-for-4 stat line with two runs driven in and three runs scored. Loux, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Jaden Shores notched her fourth victory of the year. Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., struck out five and allowed two hits.
Against Ottawa, Morgan McCallum reeled in six RBIs while going 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Kennedy Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., went 2-for-3 and scored three times.
McCallum, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, nailed a three-run homer for OCU's 10-2 lead in the fifth. McCallum had a two-run single in the third and a run-scoring base hit in the fourth.
Kylie Dodson picked up seven strikeouts en route to the win. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., limited Ottawa to an unearned run on two hits and a walk. Dodson went to 4-0.
The Stars play Bellevue (Neb.) at 10 a.m. Feb. 23 in Chickasha, Okla.
