Stars defeated by Oklahoma 88-68

OCU ends exhibition run with loss at Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma City University ended their three-game exhibition run against NCAA Division I programs on Monday by losing to Oklahoma, 88-68, at Lloyd Noble Center.
The Stars played road games against Arkansas, sixth-ranked Texas A&M and Oklahoma throughout a six-day span. OCU will open their season on Friday afternoon.
Mallory Lockhart, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, led the Stars with 23 points while going 7-of-17 from the floor. Lockhart connected on 3-of-10 from beyond the arc. She received third-team all-Sooner Athletic Conference honors during the 2018-19 season.
Payton Taylor, a junior from Ada, Okla., finished with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. Taylor also collected five rebounds during the game. She averaged 4.5 points during the Stars' first two exhibition games. Erika Ankney, a sophomore from Harrah, Okla., put in eight points while grabbing four rebounds and two steals.
Taylor Sylvester, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., led the Stars with eight rebounds and Shamika Smith, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., recorded a team-high five assists.
The Sooners had three double-figure scorers, led by Ana Llanusa's game-high 27 points. Llanusa shot 7-of-11 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free throw line. Taylor Roberston and Madi Williams finished with 20 points and 13 points, respectively.
 Lockhart came out blazing early, hitting two 3-pointers in the first five minutes. OCU hung with the Sooners during that span, with Brennyn Seagler hitting a third 3-pointer to make it 15-12 with 4:56 to play in the period. The Sooners ended the first quarter on a 14-0 run, extending their lead to 29-12. Llanusa and Robertson both collected eight points in the quarter.
Taylor recorded eight straight points for OCU to begin the second quarter as the Stars went on a 7-0 run over a 49-second spurt. After winning the quarter, 19-16, OCU trailed 45-31 at the break.
Oklahoma ended the third quarter with three free throws from Llanusa after a shooting foul was called on OCU's Ankney. The makes extended the Sooner lead to 65-48.
Lockhart provided a slight spark in the fourth, jumpstarting a 10-3 Oklahoma City run. She scored six straight to cut the OU lead to 13. After getting within 11 points at the 4:00 mark, the Sooners ran away with it by garnering a 12-0 spurt.
The Stars lost the rebound battle, 42-40, after a minus-8 rebound differential at Texas A&M. OCU shot 22-of-60 (36.7 percent) from the floor, including 6-of-20 (30.0 percent) from 3-point territory. OU finished the game 30-of-65 (46.2 percent) and hit 12 3s.
Oklahoma City will play the season-opener 4 p.m. Friday versus Texas A&M-Texarkana in Waxahachie, Texas in the Southwestern Assemblies of God Classic.
