OCU sinks Panhandle State 75-57

Stars outscore Aggies 40-8 in the paint

OKLAHOMA CITY – Taylor Sylvester trounced on Panhandle State for a career-high 20 points to lead Oklahoma City University to a 75-57 victory Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars forced Panhandle State into 22 turnovers during the contest. OCU has now forced two opponents into 20-plus turnovers, creating 25 takeaways versus Texas A&M-Texarkana on Nov. 8. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 5-0, 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Sylvester, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., grabbed six rebounds and recorded three blocks to go along with her 9-of-14 shooting night from the field, including her first 3-pointer of the season in 28 minutes on the floor. Brennyn Seagler, a senior from Gruver, Texas, added 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals while going 6-for-15 from the field.
Panhandle State kept it close in the first quarter, trailing 18-17 at the end of the period. OPSU clawed back with an 11-3 run to end the quarter. The Stars outscored the Aggies 23-12 in the second quarter, and led 41-29 at the break. OCU went on an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to widen the game to a 71-47 spread, with Seagler and Erika Ankney contributing eight points during the spurt.
OCU dominated the game, particularly with a 40-8 advantage in points in the paint and a 44-34 rebound differential. The Stars, who came in leading NAIA Division I in assists per game (25.0), recorded 19 assists on 29 buckets.
Jaelyn Knight, a freshman from Georgetown, Texas, added 11 points and three rebounds, while shooting 4-for-7 from the field. Knight has now recorded double figures twice this season. Erika Ankney, a sophomore from Harrah, Okla., finished with eight points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals, while shooting 4-of-9 from the floor.
Oklahoma City plays next against Wayland Baptist (Texas) 2 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
