Stars cruise to 41-7 win over Texas Wesleyan

OCU hands Tyson her first win as head coach

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University posted a 41-7 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Wednesday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Cierra Foster, Destiny Lyng and Monica Mendoza supplied Oklahoma City with falls. The Stars, ranked seventh in the NAIA, collected the victory in their first dual under new women's wrestling coach Nicole Tyson.
OCU notched six victories and scored 29 unanswered points to finish the dual.
Foster, a sophomore from Post Falls, Idaho, nailed the fall against Elizabeth Harris in 20 seconds in the 143-pound bout. Mendoza, a junior from Des Plaines, Ill., finished off Alexis Saldivar in 39 seconds at 123 pounds, while Lyng pinned Karestin Andrews in 5:28. Lyng, a sophomore from La Mesa, Calif., improved to 8-2 this season.
OCU's Nkechinyere Nwankwo completed the 12-0 technical-fall win over Ashley Molina with a four-point throw in the 191-pound match. Nwankwo, a sophomore from Rosenberg, Texas, went to 5-1 on the season.
Alexandra Magana provided Texas Wesleyan with its highlight, a 14-4 technical-fall victory over Lauren Calderon. Texas Wesleyan dropped to 1-2 in duals in its inaugural season.
The Stars wrestle next in the Wayland Baptist Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 7 in Plainview, Texas.
