OCU flattens Haskell 82-46

Lockhart hits six treys, Sylvester lands double-double

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mallory Lockhart scorched Haskell (Kan.) for 18 points on six 3-pointers to lead Oklahoma City University to an 82-46 victory in its second game of the Oklahoma City Classic on Saturday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Lockhart, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, also snagged three rebounds and had three assists and two steals in the win. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA women's basketball, improved to 4-0 overall, and Haskell dropped to 3-7.
Oklahoma City put together a lopsided second quarter, outscoring the Indians 24-4 and leading 43-18 at the break. OCU's blistering defense, ranked second in the NAIA, caused Haskell to shoot just 23.3 percent from the field and 10.0 percent from 3-point land in the first half. After the final horn, Haskell's shooting percentage finished at 28.6 percent from the field and 24.0 percent from 3-point range. OCU was also dominant on the boards, outrebounding Haskell 46-23. On the offensive end, the Stars assisted on 28 of their 32 made baskets and outscored the Indians 20-4 in bench points. OCU's 28 assists are a season high. Brennyn Seagler tallied six assists while Erika Ankney finished with five.
Taylor Sylvester joined Lockhart in double figures with 16 points. Sylvester, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., led all players with 10 rebounds. Four Stars collected eight points on the night, including Ankney, Jaelyn Knight, Seagler and Payton Taylor. Seagler grabbed eight rebounds, while Knight brought in five.
Janee Bates and Nizhoni Thomas reached double figures for Haskell with 10 points. Bates had four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Cherelle Speen landed a team-high seven rebounds for the Indians.
The Stars open up conference play on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Panhandle State at Abe Lemons Arena.
