Caputo scores twice, OCU earns road victory

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University toppled Wayland Baptist (Texas) 3-2 Saturday at Hilliard Field to stay in the hunt to host a Sooner Athletic Conference tournament match.
The Stars bounced back from a double overtime loss Tuesday and scored three goals to best the Pioneers and move to 9-7 (5-3 SAC) on the season.
OCU jumped on the scoreboard first when Hailey Terrell hit a shot from just outside the box after a free kick and scored in the 69th minute to make the score 1-0.
Wayland Baptist evened the score at 1-1 just a minute later when Aryial Garcia scored off a corner kick from Megan Attenborough.
The Stars took back the lead in the 76th minute when Caputo beat WBU goalkeeper Maci Merket to make the score 2-1.
In the 84th minute, Caputo put in her 11th goal of the season to increase the Stars' lead to 3-1.
WBU's Attenborough recorded a goal of her own in the 85th minute when she retrieved the ball after a shot came off the cross bar and netted it by Oklahoma City goalkeeper Nadine Steiner to cut the Stars lead to 3-2. OCU held on for the next five minutes to obtain the victory.
Steiner played all 90 minutes between the posts and made two saves to help OCU to its fifth conference win of the season.
