OCU draws No. 19 Mid-America Christian 1-1

Stars get a point versus ranked opponent on Senior Day

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University played to a 1-1 draw on Senior Day with Mid-America Christian Tuesday at Brian Harvey Field.
The Stars, now 6-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, got a match-tying goal from senior Julio Hernandez in the 78th minute, but couldn't find the back of the net again and the match ended in a 1-1 draw after two overtime periods.
Mid-America Christian took a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute when Pero Mikulic took a pass from Stephen Nganga and scored from 8 yards out.
The Stars evened the match at 1-1 just three minutes later when senior Andy Flores' blocked shot glided into the air and found the feet of senior Andrija Sreckovic. Sreckovic tapped it to Hernandez who found the back of the net, beating Mid-America goalkeeper Austen Parker and scoring his fourth goal of the season.
In the first overtime period, OCU's Guilherme Grave sailed a shot over the net for the only pressure from either side during the 10 minutes of play.
Ljubisa Palic launched from distance in the second overtime and was wide of the net. The Evangels had three chances in the final two and a half minutes. Senior goalkeeper Andre Salvador made one of his four saves in the 109th minute off a shot from Dominik Tajak to keep the match level at one goal apiece.
Flores, Hernandez, Kian Rahmanzadeh, Salvador, Sreckovic and Fernando Toledo were honored before the match for their time wearing a Stars uniform. These seniors have contributed to an OCU men's soccer record of 42-21-5 over the last four years.
Three games back from hosting a conference tournament match with three games left to play, the tie may end up being Brian Harvey's final game coaching men's soccer for OCU at Brian Harvey Field.
"I have met some really nice people, so many people who have gone on and done some really good things in life," said Harvey. "Hopefully I was a little part of that, just helping them up the road in life."
The Stars will return to action against Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
