Stars roll past Southwestern Assemblies of God 3-0

OCU gets two goals from Caputo in Saturday’s win

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled to a 3-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) Saturday night at Brian Harvey Field.
The Stars improved to 8-6 on the year, 4-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer. Southwestern Assemblies of God dropped to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in the SAC.
Madi Caputo, a sophomore from Broken Arrow, Okla., notched the first goal of the match in the 31st minute when she gathered a free kick from Hailey Terrell and scored on an empty net from 5 yards out.
The Stars got on the board again in the 34th minute when a corner kick from Rachel Brantley met Caputo inside the box, whose header slipped into the top right corner to put OCU up 2-0. Caputo now has a team-leading nine goals on the season.
"She has had a good week," said OCU head coach Brian Harvey. "She scored two goals earlier in the week against Central Christian so she has had a very good week. She is really coming into form at the correct time."
OCU fired 13 shots and SAGU had just two shots after 45 minutes of play.
Madison Lamer and Ashton Denham worked a give-and-go for OCU's third goal of the night in the 88th minute. Lamer beat the charging keeper and sent a 12-yard shot into an empty net. Lamer, a junior from Edmond, Okla., now has two goals on the season and has led OCU's backline throughout the year.
Nadine Steiner, a freshman from Mutlangen, Germany, tallied one save on the night and earned her third shutout of the year. Steiner has 32 saves and 22 goals allowed in 2019.
Oklahoma City is back in action for senior night vs. Mid-America Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Brian Harvey Field.
