CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University pasted USAO 64-38 on Saturday afternoon at USAO Fieldhouse.
Payton Taylor, a sophomore from Ada, Okla., topped the Stars with 11 points. Oklahoma City, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, extended its win streak to eight games while improving to 12-1, 5-0 within Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Taylor hauled in five rebounds. Brennyn Seagler, a junior from Gruver, Texas, totaled 10 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Abby Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., turned in nine points, three rebounds and two steals for the Stars. The Stars bench tallied 36 points.
NaShyla Hammons, a junior from Oklahoma City, contributed eight points and eight rebounds, and Taylor LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, grabbed eight rebounds for OCU.
Oklahoma City limited USAO to 23.1 percent shooting from the field. The Stars held an opponent to a field-goal percentage below 25 percent for the fourth time this season. OCU matched its season low by the opposition by holding the Drovers to two 3-pointers made. USAO kept OCU to its season low in scoring.
The Stars reeled off an 8-0 run to widen their lead to 18-6 early in the second period. Selzer ignited the surge with back-to-back lay-ins.
Oklahoma City's advantage reached 23 points as Hammons and Seagler nailed consecutive 3-pointers. Seagler sank a trey to put the Stars ahead 45-22 with 1:44 remaining in the third quarter.
OCU began a stretch of four league games in a week. The Stars meet Southwestern Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Bethany, Okla.
