Stars subdue Southwestern Christian 71-53

OCU stays perfect in Sooner Athletic Conference play, improving to 6-0

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University stomped Southwestern Christian 71-53 on Tuesday night in Pickens-Springer Gym.
Abby Selzer led the way for the Stars with 14 points, while Brennyn Seagler chipped in 13 points. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Southwestern Christian dropped to 5-7 on the year and 2-4 in SAC play.
Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., added nine rebounds and Seagler contributed four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
Oklahoma City opened up a three-point lead after the first quarter and led by as many as 12 points in the first half before going to the half up 34-25. The Stars capitalized off of 14 Southwestern Christian first-half turnovers, resulting in six points for OCU.
The Stars crashed the glass and outrebounded Southwestern Christian 15-13 in the first half and 35-28 for the game. NaShyla Hammons pulled down seven rebounds to go with five points.
OCU's 47-22 halftime lead quickly grew in the third period, as the Stars' started the first five minutes on a 15-7 run increase the lead to 17. OCU held Southwestern Christian to a 29.8 percent field-goal percentage overall and 33.3 percent shooting from the floor in the first half. OCU hit 44.1 percent from the field in the game and 46.4 percent during the first half. OCU sank 8-of-18 3-point shots led by Seagler's 3-for-4 shooting from 3-point range.
Oklahoma City nation best defense has now held 10 opponents below 30 percent shooting from the floor. Michaela Kay gave OCU its biggest lead of the night 66-49 with a 3-pointer from the top of the arc at the 9:17 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Stars return to action at 6 p.m. on Thursday against Wayland Baptist at Abe Lemons Arena.
