OCU sails past Central Christian

Stars earn third league win of season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University sank Central Christian (Kan.) 25-14, 25-8, 25-14 on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., notched seven kills, 15 assists and seven digs for OCU. The Stars moved to 7-1, 3-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, led Oklahoma City with eight kills, while Lacy Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., posted seven kills and three blocks.
The Stars' Sophia Salak, a freshman from McKinney, Texas, totaled 14 assists, two kills and two digs, and Lauren Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, picked up 16 digs and five assists.
OCU served up nine aces. Isabel Harwell, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., accounted for four aces and five digs, while Ella Lofton, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, turned in five kills, four digs and three aces for the Stars.
In the first set, Harwell dropped in an ace to give OCU a 7-1 advantage. Beeler nailed a kill to put the Stars ahead 23-9.
Bjelobrk contributed two kills to help OCU score the first seven points of the second set. Bjelobrk's five kills aided the Stars in building a 15-2 lead.
In the third and deciding set, OCU overcame a 9-6 deficit. The Stars rang up seven consecutive points as Harwell accrued three aces.
The Stars face Southwestern Christian at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
