SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Aboubakr Diallo's header in the 89th minute pushed Oklahoma City to a 4-3 victory over John Brown (Ark.) on Saturday night at Alumni Field.
Diallo, a senior from Oyem, Gabon, collected four goals for the Stars. OCU improved to 6-2 on the year and 1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer. John Brown fell to 3-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in SAC play.
Diallo became the first OCU men's soccer player to record four goals since Adam Black did so Oct. 22, 2013 against Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Okla. Logan Stewart was the last Star to have three goals in a match against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Sept. 29, 2015.
Andrija Sreckovic, a junior from Kragujevac, Serbia, floated a pass from right flank to Diallo in the 11th minute to get the scoring started with a beautiful diving header into the bottom left corner from 8 yards out. JBU had an answer in the 27th minute with a loose ball in the box that was buried in the goal by Elias McCloud from 3 yards out.
The Golden Eagles collected another goal in the 37th minute off of Micah Herrmann's leg from 16 yards out that was set up with passes from Goncalo Verissimo and Ryan Williams through the defense. The Stars would get things evened up going into the break with another goal from Diallo in the 42nd off of a cross from Fernando Toledo.
The defenses held tight early on in the second half until JBU grabbed the lead in the 63rd minute with a goal from Conner Haney. Haney was set up off of a restart with passes from Collin Smith and Ryan Williams. It did not take Diallo long to even things back up, completing his hat trick in the 65th minute off of James Beattie's counter attack.
In the 89th minute, Henrik Verolet, a senior from Schliengen, Germany, assisted Diallo in scoring the game winner from 6 yards out.
Andre Salvador, a junior from São Bento do Sul, Brazil, allowed three goals and collected six saves in the win to move to 6-2. JBU's Britt Wisener allowed four goals and collected three saves in the loss.
Oklahoma City is back in action 7 p.m. Tuesday at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas.
