Stars top Southwestern Christian 12-4 to advance to SAC Tournament title game

OCU wins twice to meet USAO in SAC Tournament title game Monday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University baseball punched its ticket to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship game after pounding Southwestern Christian 12-5 and 12-4 Sunday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU (47-6), ranked fifth in the NAIA, will take on No. 8 USAO (44-6) at 1 p.m. Monday at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla. Oklahoma City went 2-1 against the Drovers in the regular season.
Hunter Aguirre led the Stars in game one, going 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Joe Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., notched three hits, including two doubles and a triple in Sunday's first game against the Eagles. Lytle extended his OCU record to 87 career doubles.
A two-RBI double from Lane Milligan put the Stars ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning, then in the third Elliott Cary homered and Lytle tripled to give OCU a 7-run advantage. Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., capped the third with a sacrifice fly that scored Dillon Goddard. Milligan ended game one 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Southwestern Christian rattled off five runs in the next two innings to cut the OCU lead to 8-5. The Stars pushed two runs across in the top of the fifth, then pulled away when Branden Grieger drove in a run and Jacob Chappell scored on a passed ball in the eighth to put Oklahoma City ahead 12-5. Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., had two hits, three runs scored and an RBI in game one.
Blaze Hastings, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., stayed perfect on the mound as he improved to 9-0 after throwing three strikeouts and giving up three earned runs in 5.1 innings. Miguel Figueroa pitched the final 3.2 innings and allowed no hits while striking out two.
The Stars kept things rolling in game two, racing to a 7-0 lead after the first three innings. The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the fourth but quickly trailed by seven again after a home run from Daniel Costello in the bottom of the fourth and an RBI single from Aguirre in the fifth. In the sixth, Grieger smacked a two-run homer and Shaun Corso had an RBI single up the middle to give OCU a 10-run lead.
Aguirre picked up his first win of the season, going six innings and allowing five hits and one earned run. Tyler Milligan, a junior from Binger, Okla., pitched the final three innings in relief and gave up three hits and two runs while tossing one strikeout.
