Stars open SAC Tournament with 20-0 victory over Central Christian

Smith hits for cycle and tallies seven RBIs

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University opened the 2018 Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament with a dominant 20-0 thrashing over Central Christian (Kan.) Thursday night at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jaci Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, led the Stars on offense by hitting for the cycle and finishing the night 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and four runs. Smith blasted a grand slam over the right-field fence in the top of the fifth inning to complete the cycle and put OCU ahead 20-0. Oklahoma City (45-7) wraps up pool play on Friday with contests against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 1 p.m. and Mid-America Christian at 5 p.m. at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Baileigh Loux, a freshman from Reno, Nev., also notched four hits on Thursday night. She hit two doubles and added three RBIs and two runs scored. Loux joined Smith as the only Stars to hit multiple extra-base hits against the Tigers.
Kennedy Jackson and Bailey Whitmore each tallied three hits against Central Christian. Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., had three RBIs and three runs scored while Whitmore, a junior from Oklahoma City, added four RBIs and two runs scored. Whitmore's RBI single up the middle in the third inning gave the Stars a 10-0 lead.
Also ending with multiple hits on Thursday were Laci Joyner and Abby Meador. Joyner went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Meador finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI. OCU's 20 runs were a season-high, topping its 15 against Southwestern Christian on April 19.
The Stars also produced a season-best 20 hits, 20 RBIs and 38 at bats. Oklahoma City was one double away from tying its season-high of five doubles in a single game, a mark it has reached five times this season.
Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., picked up her 10th win of the season in the circle after throwing five shutout innings and allowing only one hit. She tossed eight strikeouts against the Tigers, the ninth time this year she's thrown eight or more strikeouts in a game.
