Southeastern hands OCU 8-3 loss

Fifth-ranked Stars take on Reinhardt at 10:30 a.m. CDT Saturday

LEWISTON, Idaho – Oklahoma City University absorbed an 8-3 setback to Southeastern (Fla.) on Friday at Harris Field in the NAIA World Series.
Jonathan Bermudez struck out eight in a complete-game effort for fourth-ranked Southeastern. The fifth-ranked Stars (50-9) meet Reinhardt (Ga.) at 10:30 a.m. CDT (8:30 a.m. PDT) on Saturday.
Branden Grieger led Oklahoma City with a 2-for-4 performance. Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., hit his 13th double of the year and scored. Garrett Foster, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., also went 2-for-4, and Lane Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., smacked his 10th double this year.
Milligan tallied a sacrifice fly to left field to let Grieger reach home plate in the eighth inning. Grieger crushed a double deep down the left-field foul line to lead off the bottom of the eighth.
Hunter Aguirre nailed a run-scoring single to right field to cut the Stars' deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
OCU tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Shaun Corso flied out to center field to allow Joe Lytle to score from third base.
Bermudez powered Southeastern in its World Series debut. Bermudez (14-2) scattered eight hits as he went the distance for the second time this year. Bermudez logged 125 pitches and retired the Stars in order in the second, fifth and the seventh. In Oklahoma City's previous 15 World Series appearances, OCU had opened its tournament run with a victory.
Adam De La Cruz hit a home run to left field to give Southeastern a 2-1 third-inning lead. Torrence Sumerlin drove in two runs while posting a fourth-inning sacrifice fly.
Sumerlin had a seventh-inning RBI single as part of Southeastern's four-run seventh.
Bryce Milligan took the loss, moving to 13-3 for the Stars. Miguel Figueroa and Aguirre also took the mound for OCU. Aguirre, a senior left-hander from Oklahoma City, kept Southeastern scoreless over the last 2.1 innings.
Jacob Chappell triggered a 6-4-3 double play to douse the Fire's threat in the sixth inning with two men on.
