OCU knocks off Jamestown 4-0, advances to NAIA World Series

Stars notch 16th NAIA World Series berth

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University punched its ticket to the NAIA World Series for the second consecutive year after knocking off No. 18 Jamestown (N.D.) 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium in the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket.
Fifth-ranked OCU (50-8) notched its 16th NAIA World Series appearance and 14th under head coach Denney Crabaugh. Crabaugh earned career win No. 1,450 in Monday's 19-8 win over Jamestown and owns a 1,452-443-2 record in 30 years at OCU. He has led the Stars to 14 50-win seasons.
Oklahoma City will play in the World Series on May 25-June 1 at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho. OCU's 16 NAIA World Series appearances have come in 1986, 1988, 1992, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2017 and 2018. The Stars won the World Series in 2005.
OCU jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one, but Jamestown answered with seven runs over the next three innings to take a 7-3 advantage. Garrett Foster belted an RBI single up the middle in the top of the eighth, but the Stars were unable to slice into the Jamestown lead any further. Foster, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., ended Thursdays first game with two hits and two RBIs.
Blaze Hastings and Craig Knoche split time on the mound for OCU in game one. Hastings took his first loss of the year after allowing seven hits and six earned runs. Knoche, a senior from Tempe, Ariz., pitched 5.1 shutout innings and gave up eight hits.
Oklahoma City struck first in game two, going ahead 1-0 after an RBI off a fielder's choice by Shaun Corso. Joe Lytle doubled to left-center field in the bottom of the fifth to drive in Elliott Cary and give the Stars a 2-0 lead. Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., finished with two hits in game two and improved his OCU career doubles record to 93.
Foster smacked a two-run homer in the sixth to extend OCU's lead to 4-0. It was his 12th home run of the season, the third most on the team behind Branden Grieger's 13 and Lane Milligan's 15.
Tanner Andrews, a junior from Asher, Okla., made his first start of the year and pitched a complete-game shutout. He tossed a season-high 10 strikeouts and allowed only six hits.
