Stars silence Eastern Oregon 4-0

Perez, Smith hit home runs for OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University shut down Eastern Oregon 4-0 on Monday afternoon at Ann Lacy Stadium in the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket.
Jaci Smith pounded a two-run home run, while Brittany Perez nailed a solo blast for Oklahoma City. The second-ranked Stars (49-7) square off with 16th-rated Grand View (Iowa) at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Abby Meador limited Eastern Oregon to one hit in a complete-game seven-inning effort. Meador carried a no-hitter until Rayne Spencer led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit to center field. Maryssa Santi reached third base in the fourth, but Meador stranded her there by fanning Shevan DeFreitas to end the inning. Meador struck out the side in the fifth, notching five strikeouts in a row.
Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., posted her 11th complete game and 10th shutout of the year while going to 13-1. Meador struck out 12 and logged 111 pitches. Meador turned in her 32nd whitewash and 51st complete game of her OCU career.
Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, launched a two-run shot over the right-field wall to stake Oklahoma City to a 2-0 lead with one out in the top of the first. Julianne Abeloe preceded Smith's homer with a single to left.
Abeloe, a junior from Santa Paula, Calif., ended the second by turning a double play. Abeloe caught Tayler Finch's fly ball, then threw out a runner at first.
Laci Joyner provided the Stars a 3-0 fourth-inning advantage by smacking a two-out single to right to allow Bailey Whitmore to score from second base.
Perez crushed a 2-2 offering beyond the left-field wall to put OCU ahead 4-0 with two out in the sixth.
Perez, a junior from Ventura, Calif., and Smith each went 1-for-2 with her 11th homer of the season.
Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., supplied OCU with a 1-for-3 effort with an RBI, and Abeloe was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Kennedy Jackson, a freshman from Oklahoma City, had a 1-for-3 day.
