Stars share title with USAO, grab No. 1 seed in conference tournament

GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma City University wrapped up a share of the Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season baseball championship with an 11-8 win over Panhandle State on Saturday at Aggie Field.
The Stars, ranked fifth in the NAIA, clinched the top seed in the SAC Tournament on May 4-7 at Jim Wade Stadium. Oklahoma City completed its SAC schedule at 42-5, 24-3 in the SAC.
The conference tournament pairings will be announced at the conclusion of the league schedule. OCU and SAC regular-season co-champion USAO each host a four-team, double-elimination tournament with the title game May 7. Oklahoma City took the SAC regular-season crown for the second consecutive year. The Stars collected their 14th SAC title.
Joe Lytle drove in five runs, hit a home run and went 4-for-5, while Hunter Aguirre added a homer for the Stars. Daniel Costello knocked in the winning run on an RBI single to left field in the sixth inning.
Garrett Foster socked a run-scoring base hit to right to give OCU a 10-3 sixth-inning lead.
The Stars plated five runs in the second. Branden Grieger drew a bases-loaded walk to score OCU's first run. Lytle followed by hammering a grand slam for a 5-0 Stars advantage.
Aguirre pounded a two-run homer to provide OCU a third-inning 7-0 lead.
J.R. Holloway moved to 8-0 on the year. Holloway, a senior right-hander from Grapevine, Texas, struck out seven in five innings. Tanner Andrews, a junior righty from Asher, Okla., collected his seventh save. Andrews worked the final inning. Tyler Milligan and Blaze Hastings also pitched in relief Saturday.
Elliott Cary, a junior from Niceville, Fla., went 2-for-4, scored twice and hit a double, while Lane Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., was 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Stars.
