Stars roll past Panhandle State 3-2, 15-5

Chappell, Grieger end doubleheader with five hits apiece

GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma City University picked up a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference victories after rolling past Panhandle State 3-2 and 15-5 Friday afternoon at Aggie Field.
Branden Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., ended the doubleheader with five hits, including two home runs in game two. Jacob Chappell, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., also provided the Stars with five total hits on Friday, notching four in game two. OCU, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, improved to 41-5 overall and 23-3 in the SAC while Panhandle State dropped to 24-29 on the year and 12-14 in conference play.
Oklahoma City and Panhandle State were tied at two heading to the top of the sixth inning in game one, but an error by the Aggies allowed Elliott Cary to score the game-winning run from second base. Cary, a junior from Niceville, Fla., produced four total hits and two runs against the Aggies.
Miguel Figueroa earned the win for the Stars as he pitched two hitless innings and tossed two strikeouts. Tanner Andrews, a junior from Asher, Okla., earned his sixth save of the season after throwing three strikeouts in the seventh inning.
The Stars' bats came alive in game two, as OCU finished the game with 20 hits, including five doubles and two homeruns. Lane Milligan got the Stars on the board first with an RBI single in the first inning, then Cary and Chappell belted RBI doubles to give Oklahoma City a 3-0 lead in the second. Grieger capped the second inning with a two-run home run and hit another in the fifth to give OCU a 9-3 edge.
Joe Lytle put the Stars ahead 12-3 off an RBI single to center field. Lytle ended Friday with four hits and two RBIs. Garrett Foster, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., added three total hits against the Aggies, while Hunter Aguirre, a senior from Oklahoma City, finished with three hits and three runs scored.
Bryce Milligan improved to 8-1 on the mound after going five innings and allowing three runs and five hits while striking out three. Craig Knoche pitched the final two innings in relief and gave up two runs and three hits while tossing three strikeouts.
Oklahoma City concludes its three-game series with Panhandle State at noon Saturday.
