Stars top Texas Wesleyan 5-3, 4-3

OCU sits in tie for first place in SAC with USAO

FORT WORTH, Texas – Hunter Aguirre's RBI groundout in the top of the eighth inning of game two completed Oklahoma City University's quest for a three-game sweep over No. 20 Texas Wesleyan, as the Stars earned 5-3 and 4-3 victories in Friday's doubleheader at Sycamore Park.
Aguirre, a senior from Oklahoma City, knocked a grounder to the second baseman that drove in Daniel Costello for the game-winning run to give the Stars the regular-season sweep over the Rams. OCU, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, improved to 38-5 on the season and 21-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference to sit in a tie for first-place with eighth-ranked USAO.
The Stars took the lead in game one after Elliott Cary blasted a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. Joe Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., followed with an RBI single to give OCU a 3-1 lead. In the fourth, Lytle knocked a two-run home run to give Oklahoma City a 5-1 cushion.
Texas Wesleyan scratched across two in the final two innings, but OCU's Tanner Andrews kept the Rams from making the comeback and earned his fourth save of the year after allowing no hits in one inning of relief. Bryce Milligan, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., notched his seventh win of the year after throwing five strikeouts and allowing only one earned run.
OCU found itself trailing 3-0 heading to the sixth inning in game two, but the Stars rallied to tie it after a double from Garrett Foster drove in Shaun Corso and Lane Milligan. The two teams were deadlocked at three runs apiece after seven innings, until Aguirre's RBI groundout in extras gave the OCU the lead.
Andrews entered for the Stars and threw three straight strikeouts to end the game and pickup his fifth save of the year. J.R. Holloway, a senior from Grapevine, Texas, improved his record on the mound to 7-0 after allowing two earned runs and tossing eight strikeouts in seven innings.
Costello, a senior from Edmond, Okla., finished a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate in game two, adding an RBI and a run scored. He had a triple in the fourth inning and a double in the eighth to finish a homer away from hitting for the cycle.
Oklahoma City returns to action at 3 p.m. Tuesday for a matchup with Tabor (Kan.) at Jim Wade Stadium.
