OCU smashes Southwestern Christian 8-0, 15-0

Meador, Shores and Wall combine to throw 20 strikeouts on Thursday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dominated Southwestern Christian 8-0 and 15-0 in Thursday night's doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Pitchers Abby Meador, Jaden Shores and Georgia Wall notched 20 combined strikeouts against the Eagles and held their opponent to only two hits on the day. OCU, ranked fifth in NAIA softball, improved to 41-6 overall and 26-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play to hold a two-game lead over third-ranked USAO in the conference standings.
Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., picked up the win in game one after tossing eight strikeouts and allowing no hits in four innings. Wall pitched the final two innings of game one and the first two innings of game two to end the day with two hits allowed and eight strikeouts in four innings. Shores, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., earned the win in game two after pitching three hitless innings and notching four strikeouts.
Julianne Abeloe, Kennedy Jackson, Jaci Smith and Mackenzie Martinelli all led the Stars in game one with two hits apiece. Abeloe, a junior from Santa Paula, Calif., ended the doubleheader with four total hits, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., finished the day with three total hits, three runs and two RBIs. Smith had three hits, six RBIs and three runs scored against the Eagles, including a three-run home run in game two.
The Stars held a 5-0 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth inning in game one, then an RBI single from Martinelli and a two-RBI double from Abeloe ended the game by run rule. In Thursday's second game, OCU pushed across six runs in both the first and third to take a commanding 12-0 lead.
Montana Price, a redshirt freshman from Bethel, Okla., doubled down the line in the bottom of the third to drive in two runs and give the Stars an 8-0 lead in game two. She produced three hits, three RBIs and two runs against the Eagles.
Oklahoma City's 15 runs scored in game two set a season-high, surpassing its previous mark of 14 set four different times. OCU also tied its season-best in doubles in game one, hitting five for the fifth time this year.
The Stars return to the diamond at 5 p.m. Tuesday for a doubleheader against USAO at Ann Lacy Stadium.
