Stars split doubleheader vs Texas Wesleyan

OCU’s 22-game winning streak comes to an end

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University's 22-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday afternoon as the Stars split a doubleheader with Texas Wesleyan at Sycamore park, falling to the Lady Rams 7-4 before bouncing back to a 10-2 victory.
The loss broke OCU's streak of eight consecutive shutouts and ended NAIA and Sooner Athletic Conference pitcher of the week Georgia Wall's scoreless innings streak at 47. Wall, a junior from Marlow, Okla., had not permitted a run since March 15th's contest against Mid-America Christian. The Stars, ranked No. 5 in NAIA softball, went to 39-6 overall and 24-2 in conference play while Texas Wesleyan went to 33-13 this year and 17-5 in the SAC.
Oklahoma City trailed 7-1 heading to the top of the fifth inning in game one, but got a homerun from Abby Meador and another run off a passed ball to cut the deficit to four. Brittany Perez hit an RBI single up the middle in the seventh to push across the Stars' fourth run of the ball game, but OCU was unable to complete the comeback as its next two batters grounded out.
Wall (16-4) went six innings and allowed 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out four. The 10 hits are tied for the most Wall has given up this season, as West Texas A&M of NCAA Division II also notched 10 hits against her on March 6.
The Stars rebounded from the loss with a dominating performance in game two. Perez knocked a double down the left-field line to drive in three runs for OCU in the top of the first inning, then the Stars pulled away after scoring five more runs in the third.
Perez, a junior from Ventura, Calif., ended Tuesday's doubleheader 4-for-7 with four RBIs and two runs, while Kennedy Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., finished the day with three hits, three runs and three stolen bases. Laci Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., had two hits, two RBIs and a run in game two.
Jaden Shores, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., picked up her 11th win of the season after pitching five innings and allowing six hits and two runs while striking out four.
Oklahoma City plays next at 5 p.m. Thursday in a doubleheader against Southwestern Christian at Ann Lacy Stadium.
