Stars rally past Wayland Baptist 9-6, 7-5

Fourth-ranked OCU deals No. 12 Wayland Baptist its first SAC losses of 2018

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University prevailed in a doubleheader against Wayland Baptist (Texas) 9-6 and 7-5 on Friday night at Wilder Field in a clash of ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
Garrett Foster's double with the bases full gave OCU the victory in the first game, then Shaun Corso delivered a two-run single to bring the Stars the sweep. Fourth-ranked OCU improved to 17-2, 6-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while 12th-rated Wayland Baptist went to 15-5, 6-2 in the SAC.
Foster, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., drove in a career-best six runs while 2-for-4 with a run scored. Foster helped OCU rally from a 5-0 deficit by smacking a three-run home run in the fourth inning of the first game.
In the fifth, the Stars took the lead with five runs. Lane Milligan knocked in a run with a base hit to right field, then Corso had an RBI single to left. Daniel Costello walked to load the bases for Foster. Foster came through with a double into the right-center field gap.
Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Corso, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., scored twice and drove in two runs.
Miguel Figueroa notched the victory. Figueroa, a junior right-hander from Tucson, Ariz., struck out three in 2.2 innings and allowed one run on one hit and two walks. Tanner Andrews, a junior righty from Asher, Okla., posted his first save of the year. Andrews worked the final 1.1 innings with one strikeout.

In the nightcap, Oklahoma City erased a 5-1 sixth-inning deficit with six runs in the seventh. Quinton Walbergh pounded a two-run homer to left-center to cut Wayland Baptist's lead to 5-3.
Joe Lytle belted a two-run double along the first-base foul line to knot the score 5-5. Corso added a single to put OCU in front 7-5.
Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-4, scored twice and knocked in two runs, and Hunter Aguirre, a senior from Oklahoma City, added a 2-for-3 performance with a run scored.
Tyler Milligan, a senior right-hander from Binger, Okla., picked up the win. Tyler Milligan pitched an inning with one strikeout. Andrews saved both ends of the doubleheader by recording the final two outs.
The Stars finish their three-game set against Wayland Baptist at noon Saturday at Wilder Field. OCU rescheduled the final game of its season series vs. Central Christian (Kan.) at 6 p.m. Monday in McPherson, Kan.
