OCU tramples Bacone 14-0, 10-4

Stars notch double-figure run total for 10th time this year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University stomped Bacone 14-0 and 10-4 on Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Georgia Wall extended her scoreless innings streak to 21 innings, while Laci Joyner and Brittany Perez hit home runs for OCU. The Stars, ranked sixth in NAIA softball, moved to 28-5, 15-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City rolled to its 12th consecutive victory. OCU has reached double figures in scoring six times and had 10 hits or more on 10 occasions during its streak.
Wall, a senior from Marlow, Okla., shut out Bacone while allowing four hits in five innings with six strikeouts. Wall (12-3) has twirled four consecutive whitewashes and collected victories in seven consecutive starts.
Oklahoma City rang up 10 runs in the first inning. Mackenzie Martinelli nailed a base hit along the left-field foul line to put the Stars ahead 5-0. Abby Meador belted a run-scoring double to left field to increase OCU's advantage to 7-0, while Jaci Smith knocked in two runs on a base hit to right for a 10-0 first-inning lead.
Joyner lined a two-run double into right field to provide the Stars a 12-0 lead in the third. Perez pounded a two-RBI double down the left-field foul line to make OCU's margin 14-0 in the fourth.
Kennedy Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., went 2-for-3 and scored three runs, while Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, had a 2-for-3 outing with three RBIs. Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run driven in, and Perez, a junior from Ventura, Calif., had a 2-for-4 game with two runs scored and two RBIs. Baileigh Loux, a freshman from Reno, Nev., went 2-for-4, scored twice and added an RBI.
In the second game, Perez put OCU in front 5-4 by launching a drive over the right-field wall for a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Jackson poked an RBI single to left to give the Stars a 7-4 lead.
Joyner hammered a three-run blast beyond the left-field wall in the sixth.
Meador broke a 2-2 fourth-inning tie by socking a base hit to left in the fourth.
Smith turned in a 3-for-4 game with two runs scored and an RBI, and Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three runs knocked in. Perez added a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Jaden Shores collected the victory to go to 8-1. Shores, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., fanned six and allowed three hits in four innings. Meador took over in the fifth and struck out five over the last three innings to earn her fourth save of the season.
The Stars meet Central Christian (Kan.) in a 2 p.m. twin bill Tuesday in McPherson, Kan.
