OCU rolls past Texas Wesleyan 7-1, 8-0

Abeloe totals six hits, three RBIs in Friday’s doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University extended its winning streak to six games after rolling past Texas Wesleyan 7-1 and 8-0 in Friday's doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Julianne Abeloe, a junior from Santa Paula, Calif., led the Stars with six hits, three RBIs and three runs scored on the day. OCU, ranked No. 7 in NAIA softball, moved to 22-5 overall and 11-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference while Texas Wesleyan fell to 18-10 on the year and 4-2 in conference play.
Kennedy Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., finished with four hits and five runs scored on Friday. Jaci Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, added three total hits, three total RBIs and three total runs against the Lady Rams.
OCU shot out to an early lead in game one, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Stars extended their lead to 5-0 in the third then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Abeloe had one of her two doubles in the fourth inning that drove in the sixth run of the game for Oklahoma City.
Georgia Wall, a junior from Marlow, Okla., pitched five shutout innings and tossed three strikeouts to earn her tenth win of the season. Abby Meador pitched the final two innings in relief and gave up two hits and one run.
The Stars got off to another hot start in game two, exploding for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Abeloe put the Stars ahead 4-0 in the second with an RBI single to left field, then Brittany Perez drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. OCU scored its sixth run of the game off an error by Texas Wesleyan.
Oklahoma City had six stolen bases in game two, tying a season-high. The Stars also notched six steals against Tabor (Kan.) and Kansas Wesleyan on March 3. Jackson was responsible for three of OCU's six steals, bringing her total to 19 on the year.
Jaden Shores, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., pitched five shutout innings and allowed no hits while striking out six. Friday was the fourth time this season Shores has thrown six or more strikeouts in a game.
Oklahoma City plays next at 2 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at Ann Lacy Stadium.
