Stars knock off SAGU 8-0, 10-2

OCU extends winning streak to eight games

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City captured two Sooner Athletic Conference victories after defeating Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 8-0 and 10-2 in Saturday's doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jaci Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, led OCU with four total hits, including three hits, three RBIs and two runs in game two. Oklahoma City, ranked No. 7 in NAIA softball, moved to 24-5 on the season and 13-1 in SAC play. SAGU dropped to 19-13-1 and 8-6 in the conference.
The Stars had five players end Saturday's doubleheader with at least three hits. Julianne Abeloe, a junior from Santa Paula, Calif., and Kennedy Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., each had two of their three total hits in game two.
OCU scored one run in both the first and second innings in game one, then erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third. Bailey Whitmore started the scoring with a two-RBI single to left field that scored Laci Joyner and Smith. Abby Meador followed with a triple that scored two more runs, then the Stars pushed another run across off an error from SAGU.
Joyner, Meador and Mackenzie Martinelli all produced two hits for the Stars in game one. Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., added three RBIs and one run scored. Martinelli blasted an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Oklahoma City the 8-0 victory.
Georgia Wall, a junior from Marlow, Okla., pitched five shutout innings and allowed only two hits. She also tossed six strikeouts and notched her 11th win of the season.
The Stars fell behind 2-0 in the top of the third inning in game two, but rallied back in the fifth to score seven runs. OCU had four doubles in Saturday's second contest, the second-most in a game this season. In the sixth inning, Smith smacked a two-run homer that pushed the Stars' lead to 9-2, then Whitmore ended the game with an RBI double to left-center field.
Meador started game two in the circle for OCU, going four innings and giving up two runs and five hits while striking out eight. Jaden Shores, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs or hits to earn her seven win of the year.
Oklahoma City returns to action at 5 p.m. Tuesday for a doubleheader against Bacone at Ann Lacy Stadium.
