OCU drubs Southwestern Christian 10-5

Stars overcome 4-3 deficit with long ball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University overpowered Southwestern Christian 10-5 on Friday night at Jim Wade Stadium.
Daniel Costello and Lane Milligan pounded home runs in the third inning to rally the Stars. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA baseball, went to 23-5, 11-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., hit a solo shot to right field to tie the game at 4-4. After Shaun Corso drew a walk, Costello hammered a two-run blast beyond the right-field wall to give OCU a 6-4 lead.
Slayton Vaughn put Southwestern Christian (18-10, 10-7 SAC) on top 4-3 with a two-run homer in the top of the third.
Milligan tied his career best with five RBIs during a 4-for-5 night with a double, homer and two singles. Costello, a senior from Edmond, Okla., drove in a season-high three runs while going 2-for-4 and scoring a run.
Milligan provided with a 2-0 first-inning lead with a two-run base hit to right. Costello added an RBI single to right for a 3-0 Stars advantage.
Milligan's two-run double to left-center field put OCU ahead 8-4 in the fourth.
In the eighth, Branden Grieger scored on an error to widen the OCU lead to 9-5. Corso knocked in a run on a single to right for the final score.
Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., was 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored, and Joe Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., scored three times and went 1-for-3.
Blaze Hastings scooped up the victory to go to 5-0 on the year. Hastings, a senior right-hander from Guthrie, Okla., struck out four in seven innings. Miguel Figueroa, a junior righty from Tucson, Ariz., fanned three in two innings to collect his first save for OCU.  
Oklahoma City scored in double figures for the 12th time this season. OCU has reached double digits in hits in 16 games in 2018.
The Stars finish their three-game set against Southwestern Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City.
