Stars subdue Southwestern Christian 16-1

OCU runs winning streak to seven

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University overwhelmed Southwestern Christian 16-1 on Saturday at Dolese Park.
OCU rolled up nine runs in the third inning to build a 10-0 advantage. The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA baseball, moved to 24-5, 12-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Hunter Aguirre, Branden Grieger and Quinton Walbergh crushed home runs for the Stars. OCU rang up 15 runs of more for the sixth time and at least 15 hits on the ninth occasion this year.
The Stars swept its second consecutive conference series. OCU extended its overall winning streak to seven.
Matt Young, Craig Knoche, Tyler Milligan and Tanner Andrews teamed to hold Southwestern Christian (18-11, 10-8 SAC) to one hit, the Eagles' season low. Knoche, a senior right-hander from Tempe, Ariz., raked in the win to go to 5-2 on the year. Knoche struck out six in three innings.
Young fanned two in two innings, and Milligan worked the sixth. Andrews pitched the seventh with two strikeouts.
Walbergh and Aguirre hammered back-to-back homers over the right-field wall to put the Stars ahead 16-0 in the seventh.
During the third, Grieger and Joe Lytle each smacked RBI singles. Shaun Corso, Daniel Costello and Lane Milligan all pounded run-scoring doubles. Corso's double to left provided OCU with a 10-0 lead. Aguirre added a sacrifice fly.
Grieger's solo blast to left-center furnished the Stars with an 11-0 advantage in the fifth.
Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Lane Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., had a 2-for-4 day, scored twice and added two RBIs, while Walbergh, a junior from Edmond, Okla., scored three times.
Anthony Ward managed Southwestern Christian's lone hit on a short bunt in front of home plate in the first inning. Kelvin Fabian scored the Eagles' run after reaching on a hit by pitch, then advancing on a couple of wild pitches in the seventh.
Oklahoma City's next contest is set for 5 p.m. Tuesday against Kansas Wesleyan at Jim Wade Stadium.
