Shores, Wall pitch shutouts in Tuesday’s doubleheader

GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma City University cruised to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference victories over Panhandle State Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Aggies 11-0 and 10-0 at Aggie Field.
Baileigh Loux, a freshman from Reno, Nev., supplied the Stars with five total hits and two RBIs. OCU, ranked No. 7 in NAIA softball, improved to 20-5 on the season and 9-1 in the SAC while Panhandle State dropped to 12-17 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
Laci Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., had three total hits and added four RBIs while Mackenzie Martinelli, a freshman from Sacramento, Calif., produced three total hits and three RBIs. The duo was two of six different Stars to finish Tuesday's doubleheader with at least three hits.
Oklahoma City got on the board first in game one when Jaci Smith hammered a homerun to center field that put the Stars ahead 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, had two hits and six RBIs in game one. OCU tacked on another run in the second, then exploded for seven runs in the third, highlighted by two-RBI doubles from Smith and Bailey Whitmore.
Georgia Wall, a junior from Marlow, Texas, pitched a two-hit shutout while striking out four to earn her ninth win of the season.
OCU blitzed the Aggies in the beginning of game two, scratching across five runs in the top of the first. Brittany Perez and Joyner led the inning with RBI singles, then Martinelli blasted a double to left-center field that scored three more runs.
Joyner smacked a three-RBI triple in the top of the fourth that put the Stars up 8-0. Whitmore later doubled to right-center field and brought in another run. Kennedy Jackson capped the inning with a RBI single to left field that gave Oklahoma City a 10-0 advantage.
Jaden Shores, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., allowed only four hits and no runs while tossing six strikeouts to earn her fifth win of the year.
OCU returns to action at 5 p.m. Friday for a doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan at Ann Lacy Stadium.
