OCU tramples Sterling 7-0

Cary, Lytle clout home runs for Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University whitewashed Sterling (Kan.) 7-0 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA baseball, posted their fifth shutout of the season. Kolin Marley, Garrett Pike, Hunter Aguirre and Garrett Foster combined to blank Sterling for OCU (21-5).
Joe Lytle pounded a two-run home run past the right-field wall, while Elliott Cary crushed a three-run homer to right to lead the Stars. OCU entered the game ranked fourth, then went to 10th in the latest rankings.
Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., put Oklahoma City on top 2-0 in the first inning. Daniel Costello nailed a two-run triple to give the Stars a 4-0 seventh-inning lead. Costello, a senior from Edmond, Okla., smacked a line drive into left-center field.
Cary's fly ball cleared the right-field wall for the final margin in the eighth.
Jacob Chappell, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., provided OCU with a 2-for-3 day, a double and a run scored, while Caleb Davis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Marley, a sophomore right-hander from Norman, Okla., held Sterling scoreless for 6.1 innings with three strikeouts. Marley allowed a hit and a walk in moving to 3-1. Aguirre, a senior lefty from Oklahoma City, worked 1.2 innings. Pike, a sophomore right-hander from Southampton, N.Y., got two outs, and Foster, a senior righty from Ardmore, Okla., retired the last batter.
Oklahoma City faces Southwestern Christian at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City.
