Stars thrash Bacone 4-2, 19-1

Milligan ties OCU record for most triples in single season

OKLAHOMA CIY – Oklahoma City University completed a three-game sweep of Bacone after thrashing the Warriors 4-2 and 19-1 in Saturday's doubleheader at Jim Wade Stadium.
Lane Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., hit his 10th triple of the year in Saturday's second game, tying the OCU school record for most triples in a single season. Oklahoma City's Jeff Maack finished with 10 triples in the 1987 and 1988 seasons. Milligan is four triples away from tying the NAIA baseball single-season record of 14, set by Ricky McMullen of William Carey (Miss.) in 1978.
Shaun Corso, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., led OCU with five hits, five RBIs and four runs on Saturday. He went a perfect 4-for-4 in game two and notched his ninth double of the season. Joe Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., finished with four hits, including a home run and double in game two.
Oklahoma City and Bacone were tied at two heading in to the bottom of the sixth inning in game one, then Corso broke up the tie with a single to right field that scored Milligan. Garrett Foster followed with a sacrifice fly that brought in another run to give the Stars a 6-4 lead. Foster, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., ended the day with two hits and four RBIs, including his 14th double of the season in game two.
Matt Young pitched the first two innings for OCU in game one, throwing five strikeouts and allowing only one hit. Craig Knoche entered in the third and gave up just two runs while striking out six to pick up his fourth win of the year. Tanner Andrews pitched the final inning in relief and earned his third save of the season.
In game two, the Stars blitzed Bacone with 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning, then added three more in the second to go ahead 14-0. Six different OCU players had two or more hits in the second game, including Quinton Walbergh, who supplied the Stars with two hits and four RBIs. Hunter Aguirre, Elliott Cary and Daniel Costello also had two hits apiece against Bacone on Saturday.
Blaze Hastings, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., earned his fourth win of the year after throwing six strikeouts and allowing only one run in five innings. Miguel Figueroa and Garrett Pike each threw an inning in relief and combined for four strikeouts and no hits.
The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA baseball, improved to 20-5 overall and 9-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference while Bacone fell to 7-18 on the year and 2-10 in conference play.
Oklahoma City returns to action at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Sterling (Kan.) in Sterling, Kan.
