OCU smacks Mid-America Christian 12-3, 7-0

Perez blasts two home runs in game one

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University picked up two Sooner Athletic Conference wins, thumping Mid-America Christian 12-3 and 7-0 Thursday night at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Brittany Perez, a junior from Ventura, Calif., finished the doubleheader with four total hits, including a grand slam that ended game one. OCU, ranked seventh in NAIA softball, improved to 18-5, 7-1 in the SAC.

Perez became the first Star to hit two home runs in a game since Jaci Smith did it April 24, 2017 against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas). Julianne Abeloe and Bailey Whitmore also notched four hits apiece on Thursday. Abeloe, a junior from Santa Paula, Calif., added two runs and two RBIs while Whitmore, a junior from Oklahoma City, produced one run and two RBIs.
Mackenzie Martinelli batted in Oklahoma City's first run of the day in the bottom of the second inning in game one. The Stars tacked on three runs in both the second and third to jump to a 6-0 lead. Martinelli, a freshman from Sacramento, Calif., had two hits and two runs in game one.
The Lady Evangels (12-6, 2-4 SAC) answered with three runs in the top of the fourth, but OCU responded with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Baileigh Loux knocked her second homerun of the year and Perez followed with another homerun two pitches later. Perez then blasted her second homer of the game with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early due to the eight-run rule.
Georgia Wall, a junior from Marlow, Okla., tossed seven strikeouts and allowed six hits and one earned run to pick up her eighth win of the season for the Stars.
In game two, OCU tacked on two runs in the bottom of the second off a single to center field from Whitmore. Abby Meador hit an RBI double in the fourth to give the Stars a 3-0 lead. Then in the sixth, Oklahoma City pulled away with a three-run inning capped by a two-RBI double to left field from Loux.
Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., earned her fourth shutout of the season. She struck out eight Mid-America Christian batters and gave up only two hits.
Oklahoma City plays next against Oklahoma Panhandle State in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Goodwell, Okla.
