OCU routs Bacone 16-0

Grieger paces Stars with five runs driven in

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University steamrolled Bacone 16-0 on Thursday at Warrior Field.
The Stars' Branden Grieger crushed a grand slam for the final margin. OCU, ranked fourth in NAIA baseball, moved to 18-5, 7-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., knocked in five runs and scored four runs during a 3-for-5 day. Joe Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Lane Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., drove in three runs and went 1-for-4 for Oklahoma City. Quinton Walbergh, a junior from Edmond, Okla., scored three times.
OCU buried Bacone under a seven-run fifth inning. Hunter Aguirre singled to right field to bring in the first run of the inning and put the Stars ahead 2-0. Grieger socked a base hit to left to drive in one run, but Aguirre and Walbergh reached home via an error.
Milligan pounded a triple to right-center field for two more runs and a 7-0 OCU lead. Shaun Corso had a groundout that Milligan scored on to put the Stars up 8-0.
In the sixth, Lytle nailed a double to right to give OCU a 10-0 advantage.
In the seventh, Walbergh drew a walk to load the bases. Jacob Chappell reached on a walk to score another OCU run. Grieger followed by hammered a homer over the left-field wall. The Stars tallied 16 or more runs for the sixth time this year.
J.R. Holloway notched the victory, moving to 3-0. Holloway, a senior right-hander from Grapevine, Texas, struck out 11 in 6.1 innings to fan at least 10 batters for the second time with OCU. Garrett Pike, a sophomore righty from Southampton, N.Y., finished up on the mound for the Stars.
Oklahoma City finishes its series against Bacone with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
