FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Oklahoma City University held on for a 6-4 win over Houston-Victoria on Tuesday at Oran Good Park.
Houston-Victoria took the second part of the doubleheader 4-3. The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA softball, went to 16-5.
Baileigh Loux crushed a pair of RBI doubles and stole home for the winning run in the first game. Loux had a run-scoring double to center field to put OCU on top 1-0 in the first inning, then took home on the steal to put the Stars ahead 5-0 in the fifth. Loux nailed a double to center field for a 6-4 OCU lead in the seventh.
Bailey Whitmore doubled into center to give the Stars a 2-0 fourth-inning lead. Abby Meador made the OCU lead 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to center in the fourth.
Laci Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 3-for-3 and scored a run, while Julianne Abeloe, a junior from Santa Paula, Calif., was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Stars. Loux, a freshman from Reno, Nev., supplied OCU with a 2-for-4 performance, a run scored and two RBIs.
Georgia Wall notched the victory, striking out seven in six innings. Wall, a junior from Marlow, Okla., improved to 7-3. Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., fanned two while working the last inning for her third save of the year.
In the second game, OCU rallied to tie the game 3-3 in the sixth inning. Whitmore drove in a run with a base hit to center. Meador had an infield hit to allow Sha Ingram to reach home plate. Meador scored the Stars' first run on a passed ball.
Whitmore, a junior from Oklahoma City, posted a 2-for-3 game with an RBI, while Meador was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.In the seventh, Gabby Davila of Houston-Victoria had an infield hit to let Alexis Carabajal score the winning run.
Jaden Shores struck out five in four innings. Meador absorbed the loss, moving to 5-1 this year.
OCU returns to Ann Lacy Stadium for a 5 p.m. twin bill vs. Mid-America Christian.
