Stars fall to Bethany 6-5

Foster, Grieger each tally three hits

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University suffered its third consecutive loss after falling to Bethany (Kan.) 6-5 Tuesday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.
Garrett Foster, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., and Branden Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., supplied the Stars with three hits apiece. OCU, ranked No. 4 in NAIA baseball, dropped to 17-5 on the year while Bethany improved to 11-9.
Oklahoma City got an RBI single to left field from Joe Lytle in the bottom of the seventh inning that cut Bethany's lead to 6-5. The Stars later had the bases loaded with two outs in the inning, but were unable to capitalize after the Swedes ended the seventh with a strikeout. Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., ended the day with two hits and an RBI.
OCU had a man on second with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but flew out in its next two at bats and headed to the ninth still trailing 6-5. The Stars kept Bethany from tacking on any insurance runs, but went 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the ninth inning to drop their third straight game.
Three of Oklahoma City's five runs came in the bottom of the sixth. The Stars' first two batters reached base on walks, then Foster blasted an RBI double to left to bring in OCU's first run of the inning. Hunter Aguirre followed with a double down the left-field line that drove in two more runs.
Ricky Parra, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., started Tuesday's contest for Oklahoma City and allowed two hits and one run. Kolin Marley, a sophomore from Norman, Okla., entered in the bottom of the third and finished with five runs allowed and four strikeouts. Tyler Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., closed the final few innings for the Stars and tossed three strikeouts.
OCU plays next at 2 p.m. Thursday against Bacone in Muskogee, Okla.
