McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 6-5 setback to Central Christian (Kan.) on Monday at the Light Capital Diamond.
Christopher Sanchez had a two-run base hit with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning to provide Central Christian the win. The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA baseball, dropped to 17-4, 6-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Elliott Cary led off the ninth by reaching on a hit by pitch, then Quinton Walbergh drew a walk, but Oklahoma City didn't capitalize.
In the seventh, Joe Lytle nailed a two-out, two-run base hit to right field to give the Stars a 5-4 lead. Jacob Chappell hammered his first home run for OCU in the fifth. Chappell hit a three-run homer past the left-center field wall to tie the game 3-3.
Chappell, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., led OCU with a 2-for-3 night, scoring twice and driving in three runs. Walbergh, a junior from Edmond, Okla., scored two runs and went 1-for-2, while Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., knocked in two runs.
Hunter Aguirre made his first career pitching start for OCU. Aguirre, a senior left-hander from Oklahoma City, lasted the first four innings. Miguel Figueroa took the loss, moving to 2-1.
OCU takes on Bethany (Kan.) at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
