Stars shut down McPherson, Saint Mary

Shores no-hits Saint Mary, then teams with Meador on no-hitter vs. McPherson

FORT WORTH, Texas – Jaden Shores propelled No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University to a season-opening 8-0 victory by no-hitting Saint Mary (Neb.) on Friday in the Cowtown Classic.
Shores, a freshman from Blanchard, Okla., also combined with Abby Meador to hold McPherson (Kan.) without a hit in a 10-1 win for the Stars, top-ranked in NAIA softball. OCU (3-0) also blanked Briar Cliff (Iowa) 9-0.
Shores struck out 11 and allowed two walks in six hitless innings vs. Saint Mary. Bailey Whitmore led the Stars offensively with a 2-for-4 performance and five RBIs.
In the first inning, Whitmore, a junior from Oklahoma City, doubled to left field with the bases loaded to put OCU ahead 3-0. Whitmore added an RBI groundout and a run-scoring base hit. Brittany Perez, a junior from Ventura, Calif., went 3-for-4 with an RBI in her OCU debut.
Wall held Briar Cliff to two hits and a walk in five innings while striking out seven. Baileigh Loux came through with a two-run single to left in the fourth inning to put the Stars ahead 6-0. Loux drew a walk with the bases full to give OCU a 4-0 advantage in the second inning. Kennedy Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., went 4-for-4 with a run scored.
Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., fanned 12 and allowed three walks in 5.2 innings in a no-hitter against McPherson. Shores registered a strikeout with the bases loaded in the first.
Jaci Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Whitmore struck for three RBIs on two hits for the Stars.
OCU plays Avila (Mo.) at 9 a.m., then Kansas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
