FORT WORTH, Texas – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University finished the Cowtown Classic unbeaten after a 5-0 win over Avila (Mo.) on Saturday morning at Gateway Park.
Georgia Wall tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout to propel Oklahoma City, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball. The Stars went to 4-0 on the season.
OCU was originally scheduled to play Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday morning as well, but that game was cancelled due to the weather.
Bailey Whitmore gave the Stars the lead with a first-inning RBI base hit. Julianne Abeloe, Brittany Perez and Baileigh Loux added run-scoring singles for OCU.
Loux, a freshman from Reno, Nev., went 2-for-2 with a run driven in, while Whitmore, a junior from Oklahoma City, added a 2-for-3 performance with a run scored and an RBI. Perez, a junior from Ventura, Calif., was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Abeloe, a junior from Santa Paula, Calif., went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Oklahoma City.
Wall, a junior from Marlow, Okla., struck out two and allowed a walk in seven innings.
The Stars open Sooner Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader against Bacone at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Muskogee, Okla.
