Stars bring 4-1 record against ranked foes into Saturday's clash

ABOUT THE STARS
• Oklahoma City forged a 101-90 comeback win over Panhandle State on Thursday in Goodwell, Okla. The Stars (18-5, 11-4 SAC) rallied from a 47-37 deficit late in the first half, taking over the lead with a 10-0 run to start the second period
Ridell Camidge, a 6-foot-4 senior from Wilmington, N.C., erupted for 37 points, five assists and two steals while knocking in seven 3-pointers. He hit 12-for-21 from the field and hit 7 of 10 3-point attempts. Camidge piles up 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 43.5 percent from 3-point range. Camidge ranks fifth in the NAIA with 3.32 3-pointers per game and 73 3-pointers this season
Eric McCollum, a 6-9 junior from Newburgh, N.Y., and Ivan Saicic, a 6-7 senior from Belgrade, Serbia, each had 13 points. Saicic provides OCU with 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds a game, while McCollum adds 7.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest

• The Stars climbed to 15th in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. Oklahoma City has made 23 NAIA Division I Tournament appearances and won six national championships in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2007 and 2008
• The Stars have been picked to finish second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference according to the preseason coaches poll. OCU owns 12 SAC regular-season titles and nine SAC Tournament crowns
• Oklahoma City won 79-70 over Wayland Baptist on Jan. 18 at Abe Lemons Arena. Samuel Williams fueled the Stars with 20 points and 12 rebounds. OCU went to 44-16 in the all-time series
 
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
• Wayland Baptist (Texas) pulled out a 64-60 win over Central Christian (Kan.) on Thursday in Plainview, Texas. Samuel Kalwanyi hit free throws with 31 seconds left, then Josh Throns downed a pair of shots from the free-throw line with three seconds to go to propel Wayland Baptist (16-7, 8-6 SAC)
• Rokas Mazionis, a 6-8 junior, posted 13 points and five rebounds while shooting 6-for-10 from the floor. Mazionis averages 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds a game
• Trevonta Robertson, a 6-2 junior, tops Wayland Baptist at 13.7 points a game
• The Pioneers fire in 39.9 percent of their 3-point shots to rank eighth nationally
• SAC coaches slotted Wayland Baptist to take fifth in the conference
 
MEET THE COACHES
Vinay Patel (54-27, third season with OCU)
• Patel collected his second HoopDirt.com coach of the week honor for Dec. 4-10
• Patel has guided two OCU all-Americans, including the Stars' first first-teamer since 2008; the 2017 Sooner Athletic Conference player of the year, the 2017 SAC co-defensive player of the year, a finalist for the Dark Horse Dunker competition, six all-conference performers and three academic all-SAC choices
• Before coming to OCU, he spent one season as Rogers State's assistant coach and aided the Hillcats to a 20-8 season led by the conference player of the year
• Patel spent nine years as assistant before serving as the head coach at West Texas A&M. During that time, West Texas went to the NCAA Division II Tournament five times, won the Lone Star Conference championship and took two Lone Star South Division titles
 
Ty Harrelson (55-32, third season with Wayland Baptist)
• Led Wayland Baptist to its second consecutive SAC Tournament championship in his first season as head coach
• Became an all-American in playing at Wayland from 2001-03 and holds multiple school records
• Played and coached professional basketball the past 12 years, most recently in Australia
