OCU notches 20 wins for 20th consecutive season

GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma City University dominated Oklahoma Panhandle State 87-66 Thursday night at Oscar Williams Field House and notched 20 wins for the 20th consecutive season.
Daniela Galindo, a senior from Shattuck, Okla., led the Stars with 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals. Oklahoma City, ranked fourth in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 20-4 overall and 13-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Panhandle State dropped to 12-10 on the year and 4-10 in SAC play.
Since 1998-99, Oklahoma City has posted a 607-80 mark for an .884 winning percentage, averaging 31 wins a season. OCU has produced 12 30-win seasons, 25-win seasons in 18 of the past 19 years and 20 consecutive NAIA Division I Tournament appearances while winning eight of the program's nine national championships over the past 20 years.
Oklahoma City has the NAIA's longest streak of top-25 appearances with 243 consecutive rankings dating back to 1997-98.
OCU recently collected the program's 900th victory. Oklahoma City owns a 907-326 all-time record since its debut season in 1979-80.

The Stars shot the ball well all night, finishing 57.7 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc. Galindo buried three treys, just above her 2.73 3s-per game average – the 13th-best average in Division I entering Thursday's contest. Michaela Kay, a junior from Spokane, Wash., also knocked down three triples and finished with 11 points.
OCU took a 17-12 lead into the second quarter and quickly extended its lead to double digits when Brooke Irwin hit a jumper to make it 25-14 with 8:49 to go. Irwin, a senior from Mustang, Okla., provided the Stars with eight of her 18 points in the first half.
Oklahoma City continued to pull away in the third, beginning the quarter on an 8-4 run to build a 14-point advantage. The Stars got to the line often against the Aggies and finished an efficient 19 of 21 from the charity stripe. Kay knocked down a pair of free throws with six seconds left in the period that gave OCU a 13-point lead heading into the fourth.
The Stars had their biggest lead of the night after JoHanna Beathard knocked down a pair of free throws to give OCU a 21-point lead with under a minute to play. Panhandle State struggled to generate offense for most of the night, as the Aggies lost the rebounding battle 30-20 and turned the ball over 17 times, resulting in 22 points for OCU.
Taylor LaCour, a junior from Georgetown, Texas, supplied Oklahoma City with 14 points and one block. The Stars ended the night with six total blocks. NaShyla Hammons, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, joined Galindo and Irwin with a team-high seven rebounds.
