Stars complete sweep of Freed-Hardeman, York

Corso, Walbergh each blast homeruns in Saturday’s two-game stretch

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University completed two-game sweeps of both Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and York (Neb.) Saturday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium, as the Stars defeated Freed-Hardeman 9-2 in the first game and York 3-2 in the second.
OCU, ranked third in the NAIA, improved to 4-0 on the season and has yet to give up more than two runs to an opponent. York and Freed-Hardeman both finished the weekend 1-3. Shaun Corso and Quinton Walbergh highlighted the day offensively for the Stars, as the two both blasted homeruns against Freed-Hardeman.
Oklahoma City notched its first run of the day in the first inning against Freed-Hardeman, when a sacrifice fly from Hunter Aguirre drove in Jacob Chappell. Lane Milligan singled to right center and drove in Chappell in the third, then Corso followed with a 2-run homer to give the Stars a three-run advantage a few pitches later. Corso, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., went 1-of-2 with two runs and two RBIs against the Lions.
Freed-Hardeman responded with two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the OCU lead to 4-2. Walbergh then crushed a homerun in the fifth inning, scoring Corso. Walbergh, a junior from Edmond, Okla., finished with three hits against and two RBIs the Lions.
Oklahoma City kept hold of the momentum when a wild pitch from Freed-Hardeman allowed Elliott Cary and Garrett Foster to score, then got a double to Chappell that scored Branden Grieger. Blaze Hastings, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., earned his first win on the mound for OCU, striking out seven in 5.0 innings. He gave up just four hits and two runs to the Lions.
Against York, Milligan got the Stars on the board first when he tripled down the right-field line, scoring Grieger. Milligan later scored off a sacrifice fly from Joe Lytle. York scored on a wild pitch in the fourth then tied the game at two apiece when the Panthers scored on another wild pitch from OCU. Oklahoma City loaded the bases in the fifth inning, then scratched across the game-winning run off a wild pitch from York.
Miguel Figueroa, a junior from Tucson, Ariz., provided the Stars with 1.2 innings of solid work after entering in the top of the fifth. Figueroa allowed just one hit and kept the Panthers from tying or gaining the lead, earning his first win of the year. Tyler Milligan closed the game for OCU, allowing no hits in one inning of work to earn the save.
Oklahoma City is back in action next Saturday against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) at 10 a.m. and No. 9 Bellevue (Neb.) at 3 p.m.
