Stars smash Central Christian 94-60

OCU makes season-high 40 field goals in Tuesday’s win

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Four Stars scored in double figures and Oklahoma City University rolled to a 94-60 win over Central Christian (Kan.) Tuesday night at Dr. Jerry E. Alexander Arena.
The Stars knocked down a season-high 40 field goals in the victory, topping their previous record of 38 made shots against Central Christian on Jan. 16. OCU, ranked seventh in the latest NAIA Division I women's basketball rankings, moved to 21-5 on the year and 14-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play while Central Christian fell to 1-24 overall and 0-17 in the SAC.
Daniela Galindo, a senior from Shattuck, Okla., led the way for the Stars with a game-high 22 points, eight assists, six rebounds and five steals. Brooke Irwin added 19 points, five rebounds and three blocks and Taylor LaCour produced 17 points and 11 boards. NaShyla Hammons, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, contributed 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Oklahoma City got nine points off five Tigers' turnovers and eight points from its bench, jumping to a 29-21 lead after one quarter of play. The Stars finished the evening with 23 total bench points, getting eight from Alexis Hill and six from Sydney Webb.
A jumper from Irwin extended OCU's lead to 13 points with 3:41 left until halftime. Irwin, a senior from Mustang, Okla., had 15 of her 19 points in the first half. The Stars headed to the break hitting 51.3 percent of their shots while Central Christian made just 34.4 percent of their attempts.
OCU continued to dominate on both ends of the court in the second half, holding the Tigers to eight made field goals in the game's final 20 minutes and exploding on a 13-0 run to take a 27-point lead late in the third quarter. The Stars were able to capitalize in the paint all night, outscoring Central Christian 60-34.
A jumper from Torie Shanbour later gave Oklahoma City its largest lead (37 points) at the 2:17 mark in the fourth period. OCU's 94 points tied a season-high in scoring, as the Stars also notched 94 points in a win over Central Christian on Jan. 16. It was the fifth time this season Oklahoma City surpassed 90 points in a game.
The Stars play next at 6 p.m. Thursday against Southwestern Christian at Abe Lemons Arena.
