Stars' Rickett entered in Dark Horse Dunker competition

Vote for Rickett to join College Slam Dunk Championship on March 29 in San Antonio

CHICAGO – Help Walter Rickett of Oklahoma City University advance to the College Slam Dunk Championships and become the Dark Horse Dunker by voting at darkhorsedunker.com.
Rickett, a senior men's basketball player from Dallas, made the 16 finalists of under-the-radar players with hops and creativity that belong on the national stage. Visit darkhorsedunker.com and vote daily starting noon CST Tuesday.
Rickett has been known as an explosive force in the open court for OCU with the ability to lay down ferocious dunks using his 45-inch vertical leap. Rickett supplies the Stars with 5.3 points and 1.7 rebounds a game with a 57 percent field-goal percentage.
"Walter Rickett is one of the most phenomenal athletes I've been able to coach," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "He's an exciting player to watch. I'm glad he's on our side, there's no question about that."
The competition is put on by Intersport, producers of the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. The "Dark Horse Dunker" contest is a digital media contest that will match up 16 of the top college dunkers in a bracket-style competition to determine the final participant in the Slam Dunk Championship, which will be March 29 in San Antonio during the week of the Final Four. The contest will be televised on ESPN.
Video highlight reels of each competitor on the website will help fans determine their choice. The winner will be determined through four weeks of voting (Feb. 13-March 16):
• Round of 16 (Feb. 13-20)
• Quarterfinals (Feb. 21-28)
• Semifinals (March 1-8)
• Finals (March 9-16)
The player that ultimately receives the most votes in the final round will be selected to compete in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, an event featuring some of the best college dunkers and 3-point shooters in the country.
The 16 Dark Horse Dunkers participating in the contest were selected by a committee representing the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. Last year's Dark Horse Dunker was Antonius Cleveland of Southeast Missouri State. Previous State Farm Dark Horse Dunker winners include Yunio Barrueta (Barry University) in 2016, Davene Carter (Tarleton State) and Antjuan Ball (West Texas A&M) in 2015, Marcus Lewis (Eastern Kentucky) in 2014, Corey Law (High Point) in 2013, James Justice (Martin Methodist College) in 2012, and Jacob Tucker (Illinois College) in 2011. Lewis, Justice and Tucker all went on to win the College Slam Dunk Championship.
