Stars sink John Brown 67-50

OCU closes game on 14-1 surge

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University withstood a 10-point deficit in a 67-50 win over John Brown (Ark.) on Thursday at the Bill George Arena.
Taylor LaCour led all scorers with 12 points, while Mallory Lockhart and Brennyn Seagler kicked in 11 points each. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 9-1, 3-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while John Brown fell to 6-3, 2-2 SAC.
LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, added five rebounds, two assists and a block in 24 minutes, shooting 4-for-7 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. Seagler snagged seven rebounds and three steals, with two blocks and an assist, while Lockhart had two steals, two rebounds and an assist.
John Brown had the best shooting half against OCU in the first half shooting 41 percent since Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) shot 46 percent in the first half. The Golden Eagles started off the game making three 3-pointers and taking advantage of OCU's poor shooting early on to have the advantage at the half 31-28. John Brown posted 34.9 percent shooting from the field. Our Lady of the Lake shot 37.1 percent from the floor Nov. 17 for the highest field-goal percentage OCU has allowed this season.
JBU increased their lead to 40-32 at the 5:22 mark of the third quarter before OCU went on a 12-2 run to close out the period. Lockhart knocked down a 3-pointer from the right wing at the 4:25 mark of the third to tie the game at 40-40 on a Michaela Kay assist. Kay led the Stars with five assists.
NaShyla Hammons made a layup with 7:39 left in the game to put the Stars out front 49-47 to ignite an 20-3 run over the remainder of the game. Abby Selzer had four blocks to go along with seven points and eight rebounds.
OCU returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 against Bacone at Abe Lemons Arena.
