OCU crushes Bacone 97-22

Selzer turns in her second double-double of season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dismantled Bacone 97-22 on Saturday afternoon inside Abe Lemons Arena.
Abby Selzer added another dominating performance with 22 points. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 10-1, 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., had 10 rebounds, two blocks and two assists Saturday. She closed out the first half of the season shooting 72.7 percent from the floor to lead the NAIA. Mallory Lockhart, a freshman from Keller, Texas, pitched in 14 points while shooting 6-for-10 from beyond the arc. Lockhart is now shooting 48.6 percent from 3-point land on the season, which is good enough for top-10 in the nation.
The Stars allowed their lowest point total since a 133-24 win over Central Christian (Kan.) on Nov. 24, 2012 in Shawnee, Okla. OCU set its single-game record for fewest points allowed in a 130-19 win over Dallas Christian on Nov. 25, 2008 at Abe Lemons Arena.
"I felt like we got better this week," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "I just wanted us to execute – run some stuff on offense and execute while also executing our defense, and I really thought we did that today. I really thought that everyone did well today with moving the ball, and we looked sharp."
The Stars held the Warriors to 14.5 percent shooting for the game, lowering their nation-leading defensive field-goal percentage. OCU added 62 rebounds to Bacone's 19, with 12 steals and nine blocks. JoHanna Beathard led the team with three blocks, while Taylor Sylvester rejected two shots.
OCU outscored Bacone 50-4 in the paint and 26-3 on second-chance opportunities. NaShyla Hammons, a junior from Oklahoma City, and Beathard, a junior from Fletcher, Okla., each added 12 points.
Oklahoma City dished out 28 assists as a team as every player tallied at least one assist. The Stars were led by Shamika Smith, who had seven assists. Smith, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., added four points and four rebounds.
The Stars will close out the year with Wiley (Texas) at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31 in Abe Lemons Arena.
