Stars demolish Wiley 92-47

Selzer collects career-high 26 points

OKLAHOMA CITY – Abby Selzer scorched Wiley for a season-high 26 points to lead Oklahoma City University to a 92-47 victory in its final game of the 2018 part of the season on Monday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.
Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., also snagged seven rebounds, had one steal and a block in the win. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA women's basketball, improved to 11-1 overall, and Wiley dropped to 4-7.
"Abby is just a tough matchup," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "The thing about it is Michaela Kay got us off to a good start making a couple of shots, and NaShyla Hammons and Payton Taylor did what they do early and that just opens it up inside. The post players just executed and took advantage of it."
Oklahoma City jumped out to a 16-point lead after the first quarter and stretched its lead to 24 points by halftime. The Stars' nation-leading pestering defense caused the Lady Wildcats to shoot just 31.3 percent from the field and turn the ball over seven times in the first half.
After the final horn, Wiley's shooting percentage dipped to 27.9 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from 3-point range. The Stars were also dominant on the boards, outrebounding Wiley 48-30. On the offensive end, OCU assisted on 28 of its 35 made baskets and outscored Wiley 50-22 in the paint. The Stars added seven blocks, while Taylor Sylvester collecting four bringing her season total to 36.
Taylor LaCour and Mallory Lockhart each joined Selzer in double digits with 10 points each. LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, led all players with eight rebounds. Kay dished out a game-high seven assists to go with her nine points on 3-of-4 shooting all from beyond the arc.
Brianna Tolliver was the lone player for Wiley to reach double figures with 12 points to go with two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Damonica Franklin pulled down a team high six rebounds and had six points.
OCU opens up the 2019 part of their schedule on Thursday Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. against Mid-America Christian at Abe Lemons Arena.
