OCU crushes Central Christian 78-47

Stars allow less than 30 percent shooting from field for sixth time in 2018-19

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University pounded Central Christian (Kan.) 78-47 on Saturday at Dr. Jerry E. Alexander Arena.
Mallory Lockhart, a freshman from Keller, Texas, powered the Stars with a game-high 20 points. Oklahoma City, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 8-1, 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lockhart reached 20 points for the first time in her college career and equaled her season best for 3-pointers by sinking 6-for-10 from beyond the arc. Abby Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., provided OCU with 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
Shamika Smith, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., posted a season-high nine points to go with three rebounds and two steals, while NaShyla Hammons, a junior from Oklahoma City, brought down eight rebounds for the Stars.
Payton Taylor, a sophomore from Ada, Okla., accumulated seven points and four assists, and Brennyn Seagler, a junior from Gruver, Texas, dished out five assists to lead OCU.

Central Christian mustered 23.8 percent shooting from the field. The Stars have limited foes to a 28.4 percent field-goal percentage and have held opponents to less than 30 percent shooting six times this season. Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) shot 37.1 percent from the floor Nov. 17 for the highest field-goal percentage OCU has allowed this season.
Taylor and Michaela Kay nailed treys to put OCU out front 9-2 early. The Stars ended the first period on a 14-1 run.
JoHanna Beathard sank three free throws to cap a 9-0 surge that gave Oklahoma City its biggest advantage of the day 74-41 with 2:46 left.
The Stars face John Brown (Ark.) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
