WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University dispatched of Texas College 88-40 on Friday evening in the Southwestern Assemblies of God Classic at the Sheaffer Center.
Abby Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., tallied 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots in 12 minutes of work for OCU. The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 2-0 this season.
Selzer made 8 of 11 field-goal tries. Michaela Kay, a senior from Spokane, Wash., delivered 15 points and four steals while shooting 4-for-6 on 3-pointers.
Taylor LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, provided OCU with 14 points and three assists while shooting 7-for-12 from the field, and NaShyla Hammons, a junior from Oklahoma City, added 13 points and four assists while knocking in 4 of 5 from behind the 3-point line.
Taylor Sylvester, a junior from Chickasha, Okla., hauled in a team-high nine rebounds to go with two blocks and two steals.
OCU held Texas College to 23 percent shooting from the field overall and 12.5 percent shooting from the floor in the second half. The Stars sank 57.1 percent of its field-goal tries in the first half.
LaCour's bucket put the Stars ahead 11-3 at the 7:44 mark of the first quarter. OCU finished the period on a 15-0 run to go up 26-6. Hammons, Kay and Brennyn Seagler buried consecutive treys to power the Stars on its 15-0 onslaught.
Sylvester scored to increase OCU's lead to 33-9 with 6:25 left in the second quarter.
Oklahoma City ballooned its lead to 86-38 on Mallory Lockhart's free throws with 2:44 left.
The Stars face LSU-Shreveport at 11 a.m. Saturday in the SAGU Classic.
