LaCour leads Stars past LSU-Shreveport 71-50

OCU starts 2018-19 season 3-0

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University used a strong start to power past LSU-Shreveport 71-50 on Saturday at the Sheaffer Center in the SAGU Classic in a matchup of ranked teams in NAIA women's basketball.
Taylor LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, led the Stars with 23 points. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I, improved to 3-0 on the season.

LaCour posted nine rebounds, two assists and a steal in 33 minutes. LSU-Shreveport (1-1) is ranked 18th.
"We got a good win today against a talented LSU-Shreveport team," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "It wasn't hard to get this team ready to play today as we had lost to LSU-Shreveport last year. I felt like we were really focused on defense early and that carried on throughout the game. I thought our inside players really played well. I was proud of the way our guards handled the LSU-S pressure."
Abby Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., provided OCU with 14 points, two rebounds and two blocks while shooting 6-for-6 from the field. LaCour shot 7-for-14 from the floor and knocked down 9 of 11 free throws.
Brennyn Seagler, a junior from Gruver, Texas, pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds to go with seven points and three assists.
The Stars held LSU-Shreveport to 12 points in the paint while shooting 27 percent from the floor, while OCU recording 28 points in the paint on 42 percent shooting from the floor for the game.
OCU closed out the first half on a 17-3 run capped off with a LaCour jumper at the 1:54 mark of the second quarter. The Stars built their lead up to 23 in the third quarter, never looking back from the first shot.
Oklahoma City returns to action 8 p.m. Nov. 16 at Abe Lemons Arena against Philander Smith (Ark.) in the Oklahoma City Classic.
